Two very strong first tracks, one or two more highlights (that overused "U.F.O." sample will always work for me), overall good but not great. Which adds one more question to my current metaphysical ramblings: how does this good album get on every year end list? Hypotheses:
- reviewers are just happy to see Pusha T back and are secretly praying for a Clipse re-union, a good ranking in December might help decide No Malice;
- reviewers tend to rank in the AOTY year lists any LP that's got at least one killer tune (e.g. "Numbers on the Boards"). If you read the "Tracks OTY" you're better off: you get all the AOTY plus random tracks, some of which you might like;
- the overall quality of 2013 was average, My Name Is My Name is easily top 10 material (mot at all my opinion)
I'm probably ranting about nothing anyway. Good not great LP is all.
