| lethalnezzle wrote: | | Considering that for the majority of his early career (I don't really know about post-'88 too much, although there are still some great releases) he recorded nearly, if not every instrument on every album himself, as well as writing every song himself, I'd say he's at least as solo as, say, Don van Vliet (actually I'd say he's certainly more solo than Beefheart, given that much of the time his backing band was essentially just a touring band). So yeah, virtually all the good Prince albums count as solo works. Perhaps not quite as solo as a lone electronic music producer on his laptop, such as Bonobo (who is actually dope by the way and everybody who isn't familiar should really check him out ASAP), but more solo than a great many of the artists in this tournament can claim to be. Anyway, in many other matchups my vote would have gone to Bonobo, but there are only like one or two artists who would persuade me to vote against Prince. |
Thanks Lethal. I kind of figured that much. I know Prince was a virtuoso you essentially played everything, but never did the legwork to research exactly how much The Revolution added. from a little research on wiki, it's clear Prince should be considered solo on all his best works.
Therefore, Prince gets my vote. Bonobo is cool though _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Unlike the above commentaries, I don't care one bit for Bonobo.
However, like my comrades, I really dig Prince.

I like Black Sands, but even though I'm not a Prince fan by any mean, him by far.

Prince isn't really my jam, and I think Bonobo's Days To Come is somewhere on my chart.

Wait, you haven't even heard "When Doves Cry"? That's an interesting thing to know.

I've not even heard it...as far as I know, it could be one of those songs I heard but just don't know the name of. I'll listen to some Prince sometime.

You really should. Even though it's not that similar to anything on your charts, I think you might love Dirty Mind. Just a hunch.
