I don't understand why you would give every album an equal number of listens.

Are you referring to the poll options? I was intending those to be taken more as averages. The poll was also sort of just tacked on for lolz, I'm more interested in the general discussion.

Quality.

But my answer for the poll doesn't matter, it's kind of like how Lethal put it. Some albums you listen once, some your listen five times, whatever, etc..

Of the new albums I listen to, I probably go back to ~50% of them for a second listen within a week. Of those, I'll listen to ~50% multiple times. Usually those are the new favorites and I'll listen to them as many times as I feel like. So... I guess it's an inverse exponential distribution of listens.

No idea what that means for the poll, though.

It's like what Brandon says I guess, I never put too much thought into what music I listen to, just go for whatever I feel like listening to at that particular time, whether it's an old favourite or something I've just discovered. If there's nothing that interests me enough in my itunes at a particular time that's when I go searching for something new.

Often I find I'm way too comfortable listening to what I already know over discovering new stuff, which means I probably don't listen to enough new stuff. Doesn't bother me really though, I'm not on a quest to hear everything, as long as I've got music I enjoy listening to it's cool even if it is the same old.

For many years I have listened to the same albums a million times, I felt right with that so it was ok. Two years ago, I decided to start buying all these albums I had Always loved, because I had not the original ones, just 2 or 3. When I started doing that, I also started to discovery some new great music, and more, and more.. Now I really enjoy discovering new music, but I Always listen deeply to an artist, and sometimes I love to listen again to one of my old favorites, too.
So it doesn't depend only on the album but also on the period of our lives, I guess.

500 albums once, 250 albums twice. This measurement exactly.

I listen to every album that I decide to give a spin 2-3 times before deciding whether or not to add it to itunes. The way I decide whether to add it is by asking myself whether I can see myself listening to this album a few more times or whether it will simply take up space in my library. This guarantees that every album in my collection is adored by me and I get to know my music really well rather than simply listening for the sake of it. If there was the option I would have selected "listening to 100 albums 10 times"

i probably do listen to over 1000 albums a year and it's sort of a combination of a couple of those. Some albums i'll just listen to once, maybe for the first time, or revisit once, and some, especially new albums, i'll give a couple of listens to. Of course, some of my favorites would receive more spins in any given year.
