A smart album, but also an undeniably fun album. The instrumentation was tight and focused, and the production at times had a cool effect of being just minimal enough to give the album a bit of an intimate feel without crossing into lo-fi territory. Creative lyrics whose content often contrasted the music which they were accompanying. (i.e. upbeat melody + depressive lyrics. I'm a sucker for those kinds of stark juxtapositions.) A few tracks I didn't quite care for, but all-around a really solid album. Thanks Swede

So I liked the Cleaners From Venus' album, Hayden. I thought it was a bit all over the place at first, there definitely are great elements, but I must say there were annoying ones, too. Contrasted release. Not a dull track, only great and grating ones. The sax in particular was unexpected and a good surprise. I'll post my opinion is the listening thread when it evolves to a more definitive form, thanks anyway 😄
Tropicália/MPB are two of the more interesting music movements I think I need to be more versed in because everything I've heard in the movement (Jorge Ben, Os Mutantes, and now Gal Costa) has been not just good-- but great records, something I feel I'm not the only one ignoring. At any rate, this was wonderful.
i'd heard this before, i'm still in the same position now, i like it, but i don't love it. if i'm ever in the mood for some ryan adams i'll go for heartbreaker.
I wouldn't exactly call this comparable to the Beach Boys (though how do you measure fun?
Yeah, sonically they are different but both bands manage to create a certain lightheartedness and playfulness with their music so I spontaneously lumped them together. And I guess it's great to generate interest for the record, from a psychological perspective, by comparing them with a much beloved band here on BEA 😜
Nah but seriously, it might just be me but I find they conjure the imagery of hot summer days you spend with friends at the beach and that's something I rarely find in the music I listen to.
Good but not great. It felt slightly uneven but it was to be expected from a label compilation. The house tracks like both Ripley tracks were the ones I enjoyed the most and will be the ones I'll revisit in the future if I feel like listening to it again.
