Touré. Nothing wrong with Petty of course, I can enjoy him once in a while. He's definitely not a regular at my place though, mostly he sounds a bit ordinary to me.
On the other hand, I nominated Touré and genuinely think he's fantastic. There's almost a touch of wisdom in his guitar playing, he's got an immaculate discography and everybody should listen to Niafunké and his first collaboration with Toumani Diabaté (whom at one point I wanted to nominate), In the Heart of the Moon.
I've always thoroughly enjoyed Petty. I know we're only examining his solo stuff, rather than his stuff with the Heartbreakers, but I think it still stands. "Full Moon Fever" was a fantastic album, "Wildflowers" was very good and "Highway Companion" was very enjoyable.
I've always found his songwriting to be great and his knack for melody fantastic. Tom Petty has been a favorite of mine for an incredibly long time now. _________________ Progressive Rock
