Either way now I've got an incentive to listen to it and I will. Wasn't too hot on the one I already know, but you never know.

It's a decent record, but comes nowhere near any of their earlier work. They pretty much abandoned their black metal elements and focused on one very specific sound that honestly just doesn't work all that well with the band. It feels very narrow in structure. That said, I actually enjoyed it (perhaps more than my aforementioned criticisms suggest I should), but it is by far the least interesting/enjoyable thing I have heard from Alcest

Definitely a favorite of mine for the year. Terrific album front to back.

Halfway through so far and not bad at all. I have only heard souvenirs from them before and this is on par with that.

Yeah this is one of the few 2014 albums I already listened to.. I gave it another try just now, but I still feel the same way about it. It's nice and all, but there's nothing in this that I would find particularly memorable or imaginative. Not in the melodies, not in its "wall of noise", not even in the more "post-rock(ish)" moments. It's a well executed album, but one that I will probably never return to, as there are much better examples of it in its genre.

Yeah I'm pretty much feeling the same way. I keep hoping there's more to it.

It does a good job of mixing Sigur Ros-esque post-rock textures in a largely shoegaze context. Like others have said, it's certainly lacking the black metal element that made their past work so fantastic, but as an album I still enjoy Shelter plenty. It isn't as exciting as Alcest of old, but it's a beautiful album.

I liked this one quite a bit. I had previously planned to listen to this at some point, but lost interest.

Either way, it had a pretty soothing sound to it and was very nice to listen to.

Finally listened to this one, and I don't like it. Ultrareferential and terribly samey, with a search for spirituality and elevation that verges on bombast too often. The Muse of shoegaze.

The ridiculous lyrics in French don't help.
