My first listen to this album since it got pushed off my #1 spot. It's basically rocky, kinda atmospheric post-punk. The title might suggest melancholy etc. but it ain't really that kind of LP. There are only 4 'fast' tracks against 6 'slow' ones, but two of the uptempo tracks open the album and create an incredible, ferocious energy that the slower numbers are never able to fully reign in.
"Energetic rave-ups remain the band's best point, as great numbers like "Winterland" and "Crawls-Away" demonstrate, everyone performing to their best in a thick rush of sound."
for the first time in some time per Rocky's request. This listen grew on me a lot. I'd say it's still not top 100 for me, but it's very good. There's a weird part of me that was picturing it as an alternate soundtrack to Harold and Maude for some odd reason. _________________
