I'm enjoying this one far more than I expected. I thought I'd hate her shift from guitar to synths

Recently discovered 'Antigone Rising'. Got on their Pledge Music page and pledged. 'Whiskey and Wine Vol 1' arrived. 'That Was The Whiskey' is really a great song. These women are really quite talented.

Everyday Robots by Damon Albarn

I found this really dull. Just never been a fan of that whole trip-hoppish minimalist electronic thing. Leaves me utterly cold.

As for 2014 albums, I'm finding myself enjoying Sheezus more than I thought I would, which almost saddens me. Hard Out Here's beat is just... dayum.

Ok, what the fuck is up with this album

Almost across the board, it's received better acclaim than Pinata and even the excellent Cilvia Demo, yet it's an utter piece of crap.

I really don't understand this guy at all ๐Ÿ˜ I listened to Pluto about a year and a half ago on pure whim that it might be interesting, and I hated it.. so, like, yeah, whatever. But then this comes along and is getting some attention, so I thought it might be a bit better.. And it's god awful. The only redeeming thing on this entire album is an average-at-best verse from Pusha T, and an alright Drake feature. The beats are ridiculously generic and even some off as flat sounding, the guy is off time (or tempo.. Maybe both) for a good portion of the album. I'm not even sure what he's doing on this record either.. he isn't really rapping, and he isn't singing. He's kind of just speaking loudly with auto-tuned melodies on occasion. It sounds like T-Pain going really soft with a Death Grips delivery over Chicago trap scene beats..Badly. I also have no clue what Andre is doing on this album, wasting a pretty promising verse on a useless track. The final track is almost laughable too.. I'm not seeing the effort he put into this whatsoever.

Anyway.

On to this:

This is a self-titled EP by a group (artist?..) called Movement, and it's stunning. Every single track on this release is beautifully crafted, perfectly mixed, refreshing and even strong lyrically. Shame that it's such a short release, I'm really craving 3-4 more songs. 'Us' is probably in my personal top 10 tracks of the year. So, yeah, give this a listen when you can. Recommended.

And this is the new Kishi Bashi record. Another stunningly produced album, especially the later half. Digging the album are too. I've only had time to listen to it once all the way through, but it sounds really promising. Third track in was almost an American club-style track, booty shakes and all. Some of the arrangements on his previous album are up to par with Van Dyke Parks and Owen Pallett in my opinion, and he seemed to tone those down on this album unfortunately.. but it still sounds really good.

Last one:

I was subtley looking forward to this album for a few months, forgetting about it occasionally only to be pleasantly reminded that it was being released soon (which happens to a lot of records on Constellation for me). I missed the leak, but gave it a full listen yesterday and I was quite pleased with it. Very early 80's post-punk feel, but with this 90's post-rock undertone. The complexity and detail of the drumming won me over. There's a lot of bands that I could say sound like Ought, but they do a good job. It's also nice to see quality music of this being released in 2014. It's this really solid, enjoyable listen.

And the new Antlers sounded pretty good on initial listen. I'll get back to that one eventually.

I can't say I like Everyday Robots as much as Damon's other work, but I'm definitely enjoying the chill vibe and the excellent production.

I just listened to the first half of Sheezus and was really surprised how good it was
