The association was based on sound more than influence. Alexisonfire was one of the bands that came to mind when I posted earlier. I've always considered them screamo, but perhaps that is the wrong genre tag.
Most certainly. If you ignored vocals (since vocals don't define a movement or genre alone), screamo sounds a lot more like this at the base of it:
