Excellent first post! ๐ _________________ "And canโt you see youโre in on it?

Eh, I've no idea why this is getting panned. It's solid. Dope a lot of the time, in fact, particularly the delightful throwback opener-closer one-two punch of 'Hold On' and 'Chase The Paper', the sinister, minimalist 'Irregular Heartbeat', and the Jake One-produced banger 'Hustler'. Even the generic, R'n'B chorus anthems are fun, including the "I am the greatest" anthem 'Winner's Circle', which is usually exactly the type of rap song I can't abide, but here is enjoyable. Its highs may not be as great, but this album is at least as consistent as, say, ScHoolboy Q's latest album. He's also rapping confidently, albeit without straying too far from his comfort zone, but there's something refreshing about that in an age where everybody wants a big-name hip-hop album to be an artistic statement. Sure, some of it is pretty forgettable, but there are no outright stinkers here. It probably helps that the album is pretty brief, and only one song tops the four-minute mark, so it doesn't really have any time to drag or outstay its welcome. Also, I'm gonna have a soft spot for any album that finishes with a Styles P verse - go out on a high. I thought 50 Cent's last album was pretty cool, and I think this is a step up from that. Don't let a 4.9 rating put you off, this is a fun, if limited, listen. It doesn't hit the heights similarly low-key, gangstafied early releases like Power of the Dollar, nor does it contain a hit-single that we'll be playing for years to come like 2007's 'Ayo Technology', but this is about as good an album as you could reasonably expect from 50 Cent in 2014. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Another of my recent obsessions. Played it in my indie rock-loving friend's car yesterday, and he was like, "this is fucking great", which I did not expect to hear him say at all, given that his taste in music is almost entirely made up of Pavement and bands that sound a bit like Pavement. That is the almighty power of Bongripper. From what I've heard, this is easily their best too. Just awesome, long(ish)form, instrumental doom. Well worth checking out. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
