Exactly. Digging This Kindly Summer so far. Kind of like a mellow, atmospheric Julia Holter or something.
Timber Timbre gets compared to Lee Hazelwood a bit, but far more going on musically I'd say. Hot Dreams is great but I still prefer their previous one, Creep On Creepin On.
I can totally see that, yeah. Definitely the strongest ambient release this year imo.
With how much Iโm loving this I definitely see it charting. I also see the Lee Hazelwood connection though I think it has a bits of various folk songwriters within this sort of chamber pop(?) meets ambient that never fails to be interesting. I can see why it's in your top 10 and I'll be listening to their previous record soon if it's half as good.
Do you know how long Iโve been waiting for a return to the Agalloch that threw me into a perceived sense of wonder? Do you realize how anticipated this was for me? Now donโt get me wrong, I think everything Agalloch has done is on a scale of wonder whether they are playing with full-on neofolk musings or going into their black metal roots, but itโs been awhile since Iโve felt something that Ashes or The Mantle gaveโwhich was the โfullโ sound of Agalloch and not one dependent sound over the other. The Serpent & The Sphere grasps their love for doom metal, black metal, post-rock, and neofolk all in one package which is exactly what I wanted. Whilst this isnโt as great as The Mantle (few things are) this is maybe the second or third best thing the band has ever made and you need to listen to it. Oh my god, this is wonderful.
