Since arriving at BEA, The Waterboys' This Is The Sea has risen to the highest tier of my favorites. Originally discovered through one of Norman's charts, this album hit me like a ton of bricks. Exactly the type of album that sums me up in a nutshell. The euphoric arrangements and Mike Scott's deeply emotional vocals send shivers down my spine.
Low and behold to my surprise, in 2011 the band released Mike Scott's piano demos for the album.
I don't think I really appreciated this one when it came out, because Sigur Rรณs had already released so many magical records. God is it beautiful. This band understands how to combine tension with otherworldly atmosphere.
And on top of it all, they're far better live than on record, which seems utterly impossible.
Haven't listened to this really since it came out, since it was such an intense experience. Yeah, it's still totally a panic-inducing, terrifying experience. And it's totally unique in comparison to his other albums, including The Drift. It reminds me of some movies that are just so engulfing that it's nearly impossible to experience again, but you never forget it.

I still think The Drift wins out in the end for his most interesting, complete, and moody work though. I think Bish Bosch ends up being his second best for me.

Agreed, although I enjoy Scott 2 far more than either. I can listen to that any time. To listen to The Drift or Bish Bosch, I have to be prepared emotionally to submerge myself into darkness. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Before calling it a night yesterday, I crawled out of the Scott Walker induced madness with Black Mountain's Canadian brand of stoner rock. It's hard to believe I saw Bon Iver open for these guys at a 150 capacity venue years ago. That was the single most crowded, sweaty show I've ever been to. It was also kind of amazing.
