I'm not expert on the genre, but I'd have to suggest including:

Monster Magnet
Clutch
Boris
Black Mountain/Pink Mountaintops

Not sure Soundgarden fits, and I've never really thought of Mastodon as a stoner metal band

ok, while I'm just wtih my eyes burned, I decided to listen to this:

Distortions by The Litter
I saw Nickvolos, listening to It one of these days, and I decided to try to give this a shot (well I liked the cover... Dammitt Nick Why do you find so many "lost" albums with awesome covers). It's a 60s psychedelic and garage album, with almost everything that I need, Loud guitars, fast songs, and solos oh yeah!!! solos!!, I would like to know more about this album, They make some covers (Substitute from the who is one of them). I would like to know if they wrote some song, The best for me Is "I'm so glad" that they put all they instruments together and play like never and "I'm a man" they add effects a la VU and just show the music in a raw way, But if you have the special version The best would be a love's cover of "hey joe", Like they can put an energy on that Song that I hardly see in some bands of the 60s, It's a great listening, if you're a fan of the 60s and garage psychedelic rock..

First of all, thank you for your posts.

I just listened to these songs. Well, it's allright but nothing special for me. I'm pretty sure the songs are all covers. "I'm so glad" is a cover, too, and Cream already did an awesome cover of that song in 1966, and this sounds just the same. "A legal matter" and "Substitute" are both cover of The Who, and I still much prefer the original versions. "Ehy Joe" has a great energy and a nice drum solo, but it becomes too repetitive. The only song that stands out to me is "I'm a Man": that's quite heavy for the period and that final part is even a bit experimental. And I can get what you mean about the album, it has a great genuine energy, though it's really nothing special, and I'm afraid it's a bit clichรฉ for the period it was released. It's still a funny album if you're in that 60s mood.

I'm not sure about soundgarden either and perhaps you're right about Mastodon, is it a kind of sludge metal?

Black Mountain are a really great pick. I'm not sure if I consider them stoner, but certainly they are psych.

Anyway I think that starting a discussion about what is stoner and what is not is pretty pointless.

If all bands who are stoned are stoner, then who is not stoner? ๐Ÿคฃ
