The early Drifters (before 1959) were one of the very best vocal groups of the 50's. Disc two showcases the many lead vocalists who went in and out of the group, and it's all great. But the real treasure here is disc 1, which features the great and unfortunately mostly forgotten vocals of Clyde McPhatter. This man was as good a singer as there was in that decade, and his work with The Drifters was his best stuff. He was so good that he's now on a US postage stamp. This compilation is well worth your time.
"Such A Night" from 1953.
