Songwriting really is something strange. Sound-wise, this is terribly banal. Just some folk-rock shit with a few violins and horns thrown in for good measure, and a good singer. Totally unremarkable. But damn, what a composer he is. Some of the best songs of '66 on here, and incredibly consistent as well. Why are his songs so very good when others' aren't? I've thought about it many times, but I can't find out. There are just too many factors. Well if I had the answer, I would be a critically acclaimed artist, but it's just something which really fascinates me, how some songs can resonate with so many people, and some other can't, even if they're all similar sonically. Stunning record anyway, and the follow-up is supposed to be even better.
