Ehy, thanks for asking, and sorry for my absence. I got a 29/30 in Geography (that was easy, not very important) and a 25/30 in Systems (a sort of Physics applied to buildings). Now I'm working on the most important: Planning. I have both Planning II and Planning III, because the last year I didn't have that exam for healthy problems. A lot of work, but today I'm taking a break. ๐
How are you going? Answer me via PM, I don't want this thread to become a conversation between us two. ๐คฃ
I agree with your assessment of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Super fun band to see live though! They catered to the surf crowd and would play this legendary venue called The Ocean Mist that was right on the Atlantic quite often so they'll always have a special place in my heart.
is The Ocean Mist located in Rhode Island (beach village of Matunuck)?
I wanna go there! it seems a beautiful place, so peaceful and with nice waves...and nice music!

Anyway, I'm getting into Nils Frahm's discography. He's a deuscht composer, who studied classical pianists' music, and then started his career. Contemporary composer? I'd rather call him a minimalist, for his use of piano, and his occasional excursions into electronic territories.
Anyway, I listened to "Space", his latest album, and then I discovered it was a sort of a compilation. So I started to listen to his other works. I've heard already "Electric Piano" (2008) and "Wintermusik" (2009). The first is a collage of many pieces of music, some of them very short, while the second consists of only three long pieces.
I enjoyed more "Wintermusik" (which is on BEA, too). At first I thought it was boring, but now (after 4 time) I think it's extraordinary. All the three pieces are piano-driven, though there are some electronic effects in the background, which add a magic atmosphere. The first piece, "Ambre", is very focused on the piano, that stays on high notes and creates beautiful minimal progressions. The second, "Tristana, is even better. It starts with melancholic piano notes, then it keeps changing, with various electronic effects in the back. They shift the atmosphere from melancholic to dark, to peaceful, to melancholic again in the end, while the piano keeps driving the piece with minimal notes. The volume changes, too, creating sort of crescendos, but keeping soft and never breaking the magic. The last piece, "Nue", starts with heavenly piano notes: a mind-blowing minimal progression (not sure if "progression" is the right term but I can't find the translation of the italian term). Then this progression changes, then it returns to the starting notes, a sort of a refrain. In the end something amazing happens: the electronic effects build notes simulating other instruments and all together they create a wonderful sound. Very evocative.
A detail I love contained in all pieces: you can hear soft Nils' breath under the notes.
All the album is a bit abstract, and to fully get its greatness you should: 1. keep high your attention all the time,
which is not very easy 2. be in the right mood to listen to some piano-driven music.
Once you get its greatness, you realize it's very deep and evocative, I'd say magic.
9/10
Anyway, I'm getting into Nils Frahm's discography...
I've been meaning to write about Nils since yesterday..and now I have a kind of cramp on my mind 'cause I came home late last night, I went on a punk/hardcore reunion and...u know...
so probably at the moment my english sucks...anyway
I loved Wintermusik since the very first notes, I had a compelling attraction and I let myself dive into the whirlpool of the music...so peaceful exeperience with a big and shining interior smile, even in the blue moments I saw a bright light shining behind them.
I guess it's not abstract at all, it was like listening to a touching fairy tell, I could listen to all the album with such a concentration that I hardly had a thought in the meantime..
It happened almost the same thing with Arvo Pรคrt and Anouar Brahem...
so thank u so much Mies! a priceless rec indeed and I would rate it 90 or 95 /100
and I've just added it on my chart!
ps: sorry for my morning english but at the moment I'm a slacker and I'm not going to check the grammar!

Wow! I'm happy you liked it so much! ๐
Yes, the atmosphere is sometimes melancholic, but that doesn't mean sad. This album is a gem. Yeah, maybe it deserves even more but I want to finish Nils' discography before, to have a right comparison. I know Arvo Part but at the moment I find Nils superior. Don't know Brahem, maybe I'll check out in the future.
I see where you put it in your chart, I see you liked it enough, ahah. I want credits now ๐
