Unless you are from Australia, you can be forgiven for never having heard of the Skyhooks. As far as I can tell, they didn't make much impact in other parts in the world, but they were HUGE in Australia. Their debut album is also considered their best, it's called Living in the 70's.
Though the band's long career has seen them successfully pioneer many different musical genres; including glam rock, power pop, electronic dance music, and most recently chamber pop, Sparks have created their own unique musical universe.
I really can't say anything beyond that. Here is Kimono My House.
Living in the 70s is a relatively fun 70s rock record not far removed from Cheap Trick but I find it ultimately forgettable. Meanwhile, there's nothing forgettable about Sparks, even if you don't like them. There's just nobody quite like them, and this is the record I'd personally call their best.
Upon seeing this yesterday I thought: "this is going to be easy"... Having already heard Kimono My House and thinking highly of it - although I like Propaganda more - I was happily surprised upon listening to Living in the 70's. I'm a little over halfway through Kimono My House, and I have to agree with this. I listened through Living in the 70's, and it's a good record. I especially enjoyed Horror House, but it's something I'll forget about amidst all the other 70's music.
Sparks hit something much more unique, and I'm going to stop by the record store tonight and see if they've got a copy of this Kimono House. _________________ follow me on the bandcamp.
If your jonesing for more UK Pop Rock in the vein of Sweet or Slade than you could do worse than hunt down Livin' in the 70s - it's decent, but nothing special, slab of Australian power pop that at times foreshadows the emergence of New Wave in the late 70s. It's best tracks Livin' in the 70s, Horror Movie and Good In Bed wouldn't be out of place on either of these stellar Rhino (back when Rhino wasn't a whore) 70s power pop compilations which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND...

Once I got past my "musicals" bias, Kimono blew me away on second listen. Its flamboyant exuberance was positively exhilarating. If it has staying power, it could well be one of my favorite glam rock albums of the 70s.
