Hey guys. So I'm a programmer and I'm starting some classes this fall in UI/UX Design and Mobile Apps. I thought about possibly using this site as a project if that is a possibility. I notice there is no mobile site or app which makes it extremely frustrating to check stuff out on the go.
I currently work for Boeing as a Programmer Analyst and I work on many multiple-layered systems and have expansive knowledge in Java, Javascript, PHP, HTML, CSS, SQL, etc etc.
I don't know who's in charge of the site but I'd be seriously interested in designing some stuff if possible. Maybe even get a team together.
Am I being too ambitious? _________________

I'd be interested to see what he thinks on here, that way everyone else knows the dealie-eelie-o. Countless others have talked/complained about how awful it is to view on a mobile device. I'm not asking for money or anything, I'm just trying to help a website I love while gaining new skills and possibly having something to add to my currently empty portfolio. 🙁 _________________

Thanks, & sorry for the delayed response. Obviously, there are many issues with the site running on touch-screen devices (I'm very familiar with the problems). IMO, the ideal situation would be to have a single code-base which could run on all form factors. I've been working on re-factoring & documenting the existing code since the start of the year & designing an API which could allow the data to be consumed externally. A mobile app will need a lot of infrastructure behind the scenes to support whatever operations the app will need to perform. I'm having to do this while managing & supporting the existing site, so it has dragged on a bit. It's always a trade-off where to focus the effort as there are so many other things that need doing as well.

Honestly, an app wouldn't be practical, if not just because of the fact of how much it costs to maintain an app in the App Store (at least for iPhones). Far too few people would use it to justify an app. However making the site more mobile-friendly would be cool _________________ Progressive Rock

Pretty much this. An app would take months to develop (even with fairly basic functionality). I just don't see it as being worth it from a cost-benefit perspective. Sure, everyone here would probably enjoy it, but it would take so long to produce with a very limited pay-off. The time could be much better spent on making the website more adaptive & updating it so it behaves better on different screen sizes.
