"Hand Jive" was the tip of the iceberg as far as the musical influence in that Johnny Otis had on Rhythm and Blues. His son Shuggie (rhymes with "boogie") later joined the band, and became an influential musician in his own right. One of the more active session musicians in the 70's, he produced a few albums that proved that yes, he could do it on his own. He was 21 in 1974, when Shuggie Otis produced this one:
I can't help but hear "hand job" in that hand jive song. Vote to Shuggie Otis. My father loves Eric Clapton which actually assists in my dislike for a lot of his solo work (he played far too much Eric Clapton in the car on several occasions).
This is actually one of Clapton's best. I like Inspiration Information as well, so voted for both. _________________ "And can’t you see you’re in on it?

I showed up late to the early 70s Eric Clapton party, but better late than never. This shit is solid. Classic, laid back 70s rock with a guitar that soufully sings the blues. Quite frankly blows Shuggie Otis away, and I've been a Shuggie fan for way longer. (It was considered essential hipster listening back in 2001 when it re-released).
Inspiration Information is crazy inconsistent and never quite lived up to the hype imo. Some lounge-y cocktail numbers. A couple of tracks are great though such as the title track, Sparkle City and the epic psychedelic closer Freedom Fight (just beautiful guitar and saxophone). A number of tracks are just flat out boring drivel though. Overall, it's an ok-great crossover funk record that's actually more relevant in regards to the re-release/mining the vaults culture of the past decade.
I'm not surprised to see an album from Eric Clapton struggle in a BEA tournament, but I agree with RepoMan completely on this one. The dude may make prototypical dadrock, but Clapton still put out some really solid material. Shuggie failed to wow me here.
Thought that Otis album was cool if underwhelming, but it won't take much for me to vote against Clapton, who I find absolutely detestable. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
