I have a habit of thinking I have money, then spending it on records. But I still have a lot of debt racked up. :/

I love Spotify, its how i primarily listen to tunes. I pay the $10 for premium service, but i still used it a lot when I only used the free version. Same content, just have to deal with ads and you cant listen to with out shuffle i think.

If you want to avoid the internet and not spend money, go to your local library and check out their music (CD) section. I have about 500 albums downloaded that way.

Grooveshark and bandcamp dude. Theyre my bffs

for me, bandcamp went quickly from being a site i'd never heard of to my favorite site for checking out new music. it's maybe not the best choice if there's a specific album you want, because there's a chance it won't be there at all, or it may be pay-only.

but the quantity of free or pay-what-you want downloads makes it a great way to check out new music. and being able to view other people's collections has helped me identify users with similar tastes, and i've found some great albums by investigating other albums they've purchased.

and another great feature has been that the apparent ease of use on the artist's side means that bands i like are uploading tons of rare and/or out-of-print older releases. sometimes they're pay-only, but on numerous occasions i've been able to grab tons of back catalog stuff for free or optional payment.

i also enjoy their humorous mobile-app update descriptions... not really a key feature, but it gives me a good brand impression ๐Ÿ˜
