This is another one of those times when I'm left wondering why I've never put an album on my overall chart.
Absolutely brilliant.
Of course the music is great on here but when I was on another thread about not having comps in my chart it is albums like this I refer to. It was compiled and released in the mid 80s to cash in on his renaissance down to hip hop. I reckon this gets mentioned in best ever lists like rolling stone because they want to include James brown but realise that even his best studio albums are patchy so get round it by using a comp with lots of his amazing funk stuff on. The music on it is probably 10/10 but I just don't get how a compilation of stuff reissued years after release can be considered a classic album. It's a classic comp no doubt one of the best and most important ever. Anyone who likes James brown should check out Hell which I think is his best studio album of the period or even Black Caesor or The Payback.

Personally I have no problem with compilations on my charts and while this is not currently on my overall chart it could easily be soon, Elliott Smith, The Beta Band, The Fall, Black Flag, Minutemen, Merle Haggard, The Temptations and Lee "Scratch" Perry are just a few artists of the top of my head who have put out compilations I adore, be it in the form of unreleased material and 'b-sides' or good ol' reliable greatest hits collections. This album may not be a 'classic' album given it's format, but if I enjoy all the songs enough to make it a good album, no matter when they were released, I have no problem putting it among my favourite albums ever, that's just me though, I can totally understand why someone wouldn't put compilations on their chart, I used do it myself for the first few years I was here.

You should never let anyone tell you what to put on your chart and what not to. Put on all the comilations you want to. The chart police will get over it. _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold

Yeah that's fair enough to be honest. I am just viewing things from a very pedantic perspective. It's all supposed to be fun eh at the end of the day and about discovery. Think my main gripe is with the music mags. I suppose that Brown album is such a significant album in its own right that it deserves acknowledgment.
