I'm surprised the new Ne Obliviscaris hasn't gotten much attention around here. It's possibly the most engaging metal album I've listened to this year. The brilliancy of it mainly lies within the (already established) insane rifts and the dichotomy between the two types of vocals used (the typical death metal vocals alongside a very brilliantly done male lead). I also enjoyed the violin. Highly recommended.
I actually got around to listening to the new Taylor Swift album rather than just the one single. Very impressive album from her I must say. Takes the songwriting from previous albums I have heard and puts it all in a more sophisticated yet fun way. It's a good thing she choose to take a different direction with the music on this one as it gives a whole new edge despite still being an instantly recognizable Taylor Swift album. ๐
Elsewhere in pop music, Cheryl should be releasing a new album soon.

That album was very frustrating for me. It had so many great songs (Blank Space, Shake It Off) but then you reach the end and there's just this huge stretch of mediocrity. _________________

I never cared about her but 1989 got my curiousity since it's more pop than she was ever before and I'm liking the album a lot, it's such an easy listen. Definitely better than what other female pop acts have been putting out in the past two years bar Lana Del Rey.
Alien Ensemble, Alien Ensemble. Members of The Notwist join German jazzists and plot a psyched-out/mystical jazz record that's quite convincing. For fans of Pharoah et al, or even Fire! Orchestra maybe. Contemporary jazz with a pop/psych feel to it, only less wild than Fire!
So it's not a new album technically, but The Shins have released a remastered version of their pre-Shins album "When You Land Here It's Time To Return", when they were known as Flake Music. It's quite an experience to listen to a remastered version of an album you've heard a million times, specifically when the original's recording quality is so horrendous. If anyone is interested:
