'Andy The Binman' was cool too. Easy to be cynical about these shows but some of the contestants go on them for the right reasons (e.g. a genuine love of music etc.) and might not know of any better way to "make something happen" for themselves.
I have no clue who most of the people you're talking about are (I know one song or two by Clarkson and I'm sure I've heard of Underwood before), but in France, Olivia Ruiz is pretty cool to some extent, and I actually really like the Nouveaux Horizons single by Melissa Nkonda. That said, I had to check on Wikipedia to know who had done Star Academy / Nouvelle Star before because I literally never watch these and I'm not sure I ever will 🤔
I love "Nothing To Lose" and "Favorite State Of Mind" from season two singer Josh Gracin, "A Different World", "Its Good To Be Us", "Gotta Be Somebody", and "A Father's Love (The Only Way He Knew How)" from season six singer Bucky Covington, and "Things That Never Cross A Man's Mind", "Tough", and "A Little Bit Gypsy" from season six singer Kelli Pickler. 😄😄😄

I have a friend (Haley Johnsen) who made the top 24 on the show in 2012. Phenomenal, powerful voice. She was always more of an indie-folker than a karaoke-popper, so she was ousted before the top-16. She started a band with some friends earlier this year that I'm keeping an eye on. They haven't released anything yet, but I'm inclined to think I'll like whatever they come up with.
