Apparently there's a new pinkshinyultrablast album out, which is really nice because I didn't even know they still made music. 2015 is already looking promising for shoegaze.

Edit: and I'm listening to it now and it's god damn great, I'm gonna be pushing this for the next couple months.

I don't think anyone's doing that.

Irreal by Disappears

I haven't seen this one mentioned in the thread yet. Ignore the critics, this is some deliciously dark shit. It's not the carefully crafted dungeon crawls like on Viet Cong, this the darkness of chaos. The krautrock influence is clear, and Tago Mago springs to mind, but there's something much more sinister about what they're doing here. There's a purpose to moving through the void, but the more time you spend there, the harder it is to remember.

Page one man.

But yeah people should listen to that album because it's really good. In addition to the krautrock influences I also see a lot of no wave influence (more the grinding, early Swans-esque repetition and tension throughout the album) along with mid-00s Liars sounds. Conjures that sort of paranoid, introverted, quasi-spiritual nightmare aspect you get in those sort of things. If I was to list it as anything I'd probably go with post-punk, but it's a whole hodgepodge of cool stuff, very worth hearing.

Incidentally, has anyone else noticed how many really fantastic post-punk albums are coming out in the last few years? This is the real age of post-punk revival, I swear.

I haven't noticed any. It seems more like artists are getting with artists from completely different sounds. This is what it feels like although it is likely always being the case yet in the present it seems like they are doing it all the time ๐Ÿค”

KILLER Alternative R&B. A massive maturation from what I've heard from him (L.O.M.). Think of The Weeknd, but a little louder and with a bit of rapping.

Desperate Journalist by Desperate Journalist

Shouting out this album, really compelling, well written jangle pop sort of stuff here. Feels like it's somewhere between The Smiths and Pale Saints, very dreamy at times but with lots of backbone. Very driving, great guitar work. I remember getting really interested in this with a super positive review from the Quietus a couple weeks back and it did not disappoint, really good album.
