Shouting out this album, really compelling, well written jangle pop sort of stuff here. Feels like it's somewhere between The Smiths and Pale Saints, very dreamy at times but with lots of backbone. Very driving, great guitar work. I remember getting really interested in this with a super positive review from the Quietus a couple weeks back and it did not disappoint, really good album.

Sounds awesome. The cover totally seems like a nod to the Pale Saints. Will check it out soon. Quietus really seems to be the best review site right now. I'm slowly working through their best of 2014.

I haven't seen this one mentioned in the thread yet. Ignore the critics, this is some deliciously dark shit. It's not the carefully crafted dungeon crawls like on Viet Cong, this the darkness of chaos. The krautrock influence is clear, and Tago Mago springs to mind, but there's something much more sinister about what they're doing here. There's a purpose to moving through the void, but the more time you spend there, the harder it is to remember.

Hm, maybe I'll revisit ... To me, it was dark, but not that interesting, and at the same time failed to get as sinister and evil as early Swans or Suicide or anything ... Maybe a relisten would change my mind, though.

Yeah, I feel like I can always go to The Quietus and find something interesting and great being reviewed that no other site is talking about, plus the quality of their writing on average is way above P4k and TMT and such. They're the only review site where a really positive review of an album immediately makes me want to hear that album.

As for your complaint on Irreal Ben, I wouldn't say it's quite going for the same effect as Swans or Suicide, just comes from a similar sonic origin. Even then there's a lot more their sound than just that sort of no wave-y tension and brutality (not sure if that's the right word for it, though I don't know if evil is either). I really do think their closet comparison is mid-00s Liars, especially Drum's Not Dead, and that's one of my favorite periods of any band. A sort of rhythmic paranoia built upon by primal percussion repeated throughout with dissonant, high strung guitar work surrounding it. Anyways, I'd recommend giving it another shot, I think it's a great album.

Also really enjoyed that Erase Errata album Norm, thanks for the rec. ๐Ÿ˜

not really an album but aphex twin has a soundcloud acct where he's been uploading unreleased tracks in chronological order, he's up to like 1996ish now, 101 tracks with no reason to think there won't be even more today, and it's amazing. if it's still at 101 when you see this, 28 organ should be close to the top and it's really great.

Best so far, imo.

Savant's album "Invasion" is better than I first expected. I think it's better than his most notable work: ISM. It blends many kinds of electronic music. I wanted more brostep, though.

Hey, speaking of 2015 albums...

A couple of my friends/coworkers just released their bands first album, which they recorded in a self-built studio deep within the redwoods of northern California. If you want to hear some great modern Folk-Rock, check it out.

It's $10 on bandcamp, but if you message me I can send you a link (I have the bands permission). Support local musicians!

Also, Frogger was right about this album being great. I'm really diggin' Lizzie's vocals.

Aydszieyalaidnem by Der Dritte Raum
SUPER dancy minimal techno tracks with ambient house vibes + stuff very reminiscent of Pantha Du Prince, and to a lesser extent, Yagya

Fun stuff ๐Ÿ˜„

Teaspoon To The Ocean by Jib Kidder

Julia Holter recommended this album on facebook and has guest vocals on a couple tracks. Really cool sort of psychedelic ambient space pop, really out there and creative and fun.
