Also got around to hearing Shadows In The Night, which was really solid. I wasn't expecting too much but he managed to pull it off with a lot of grace.
Still in the throes of Father John Misty obsession too. Gonna be tough for anything to match this throughout the year, but with how many big releases there are left I'm not saying anything concrete. I Love You, Honeybear is on multiple times per day rotation right now though, which is a pretty good place to be.

This. Wasn't overly enamoured with his first, but this is like the second coming of Warren Zevon, or Randy Newman at his very best, updated with a healthy dollop of 21st century cynicism (without ever really stepping over into sneering territory). Just beautiful, funny, honest songwriting, and refreshingly old-school in its sound, reminiscent of a time when fantastic singer-songwriters were unafraid to embellish their music with unironic grandiose pop music strings and pianos. If this isn't in my top ten come the end of the year, I can safely say that 2015 will have been a fantastic year for music. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Oh shit, I thought this Father John Misty thing would be some generic dull folk stuff like Post Tropical, but by the sounds of it I gotta check this out. _________________
I know this has been mentioned several times already, but as my first legit AOTY candidate, I want to give it a quick shout. Vulnicura has been slowly growing on me over the course of many listens (~6 or 7 by now) and it feels like there's still a lot to discover. As a grand expression of private torment, I want to compare it to Disintegration, but whereas Robert Smith had a talent for submerging you in his pain, Bjรถrk's preference is to stand at a distance and paint it on the sky. I could tell you that I like it better than her previous albums, but any direct comparison to Homogenic or Verspertine would be missing the point. This is a new beast entirely and one that's easy to pass over if you don't give it enough time.
