Why?

He has the originality, the impact (on music + the population/social), the quality of the music, etc.

no other artist comes to mind when I think of that combination (other than maybe Kanye)

I'm looking for fantastic, but unpopular post-hardcore. Nothing vulgar. Any recs?

Start with June of 44's discography and Rodan's Rusty.

"Unpopular"
Well that leaves out stuff like Fugazi and Refused and ATDI so as for unpopular here, Drive Like Jehu, NoMeansNo, La Dispute, The God Machine, Thrice, Quicksand, Cursive, Rites of Spring, Loma Prieta, even MeWithoutYou have undertones. You might like Trophy Scars' Holy Vacants as it's also blues rock inspired even though it's not my thing.

Thanks. I'll add these too a to-do list. I think I'll go for "Four Great Points" next.

Unpopular like unknown? If so, here are some of my favorites in the genre (censoring out Fugazi, Drive like Jehu, Brand New, other really well known ones, etc):

Tritonian Nash-Vegas Polyester Complex by No Trend

This is a Jazz infused post hardcore release, gets comparisons to Fear sometimes.

Full Collapse by Thursday

This is the band that gave birth to a LOT of modern post-hardcore, this is cited by a lot of the bigger bands as a big influence. There's obviously other roots (Husker Du, Fugazi, etc) but those are better known.

Bayside by Bayside

So you know all those poppy post-hardcore/metal core bands? Adtr, etc? This is like the good version of that stuff.

I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone by Crime In Stereo

Oh, here's my favorite one I'm reccing. This is great, great Long Island style post hardcore album, just incredible. Very Dรฉjร  Entendu-esque.

Monoculture by Sainthood Reps

This sounds like post hardcore on a 45 played at 33. Grimy, slow, dark, wonderful, another Long Island group but they're a bit more unique in their sound.

There should be a chart of Post-Hardcore stuff I'm putting out at the end of this month, though, maybe even sooner than tht, so there'll be a lot more in there.

I've been holding this news in for a few months now, but it's finally official. My very close and personal friend Christopher Paul Stelling has officially signed to ANTI- Records (home of Waits, Neko, Tinariwen, Daniel Lanois...etc). Christopher Paul Stelling released two wonderful records on Mecca Lecca, so I'm pretty filled with pride to see him go on to bigger and better things.

His next album is gonna be phenomenal.

check out his ML releases:
