One of the dudes from To Rococo Rot teams up with another dude who has worked with Nils Frahm and Hauschka and Marc Ribot and who has also spent three years in Kenya playing drums and stuff. Dude from To Rococo Rot adds atmospheric bass and strange synth noises whilst other dude plays drums and stuff. It's very good stuff. I like it a lot. Press release says some stuff about "Kenya meets Krautronics" and bringing "African rhythms into dark electronica" and some more stuff about how the "drums mutate into a sort of synthesizer instrument, almost subliminally melting into the sound of other instruments as a virtual observer, adding a certain nuance here and there, rather than performing a more catalytic function". So, y'know, check it out. As I said, it's very good stuff.
Regardless of what is typed above, what this album most reminds me of is early dubstep, particularly Pinch, Shackleton, Mala/Digital Mystikz, etc.. So yeah, overall this is basically like a cross between 2006 earthy dubstep and Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit's excellent Secret Rhythms series. Which obviously means this is fucking brilliant. Listen to it. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Sounds awesome. Added to my ever expanding 2015 queue. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Oh my god guys please go listen to this. Best indie pop rock I've heard in years and years, haven't been this blown away since the first time I heard "I Can Talk" by Two Door Cinema Club. Seriously, it's great. It lacks the intricate guitar work in some of Vampire Weekend/The Griswolds/TDCC's early work, instead opting for a more intricate bassline and synth parts. I'm just drooling over how good this is, seriously, please go check it out. _________________

I've been listening to this for the past couple of days, I've been going back through their old stuff too. Even if you haven't heard their old stuff I think you may like this.
I'm excited for the Godspeed and Built to Spill albums although I'm only expecting the former to be great.
