I think I smiled throughout the entire duration of this. Brilliantly crafted indie pop goodness. Maybe if Ariel Pink was less weird and just did solid indie pop it would sound like this. Needless to say it's great ๐
Oh hey I'd never dove into a full dj screw album, just heard bits here and there. I started it a bit after waking, it seems like it would probably work better in night time and with inebriation, but even with all the weight of the modified bass it kept things catchy enough to work for this time of day too.
So if I'm following this game correctly, I need to pick an album for the last person to pick an album, so dbz here ya go:
Edit: oh man Luc Ferrari, I'll have to wait till after work for that one. Not sure off the top of my head if I've heard this specific work, his stuff always intimidated me the most when I was first getting into that sorta stuff and so I have less overall experience, and also I'm terrible with french and can never remember these titles. But I'll edit further with some thoughts.
Post listen edit: Yeah this first piece scared me off back in the day, this is the one, I was like "wahhhh field recordings" and then cried about it because I was a baby. But now I can really appreciate how fantastic this is. I need to check the recollections grm release that has all the presque rien things. Have you seen the activity of that label dbz? Some really fantastic reissue work there. But this album is cool. And fucking weird as shit cause then the second track is like the exact opposite, just explosions and implosions of genre and instruments being beaten to death in the most wonderful fashion. This is the one I should've heard back in the day, wouldn't have taken me this long to fully investigate his stuff.

100% this. It can be a really oddly haunting experience. Lyrically there's not much of substance but I feel like that almost enhances the otherworldly feeling of the production. Like this almost painfully earthly lyricism underneath downright ethereal beats and manipulation.

EDIT REVIEW: Gorgeous. A sense of almost dsytopian droning is sprawled out across this expanding shape-shifting journey of noise-laden repetitions and industrial pulsations. Elements of dub are thrown in there, which definitely adds flavor to what is already a dark (quasi)ambient beauty. Subtly twisted macabre spectrums of fuck knows what, and I like it :)

I am familiar with the label! And it's fantastic. I actually considered representing it for the BLT but didn't think there'd be enough classical interest on BEA for it to get very far, (also considered German label cpo if you're familiar with their releases). INA-GRM also have some fabulous releases of Bayle compositions, Schaeffer, Risset, Xenakis (as I'm sure you're aware). But yeah I'm really happy you enjoyed the pieces. Some of my absolute favorite music ever composed, and I definitely concur with "each piece as opposites". I've always loved that juxtaposition. Each one's strengths is highlighted by the others' differences. If you're looking to get into more Ferrari, the masterful L'ลuvre รฉlectronique compilation seems up your alley. A little overlong and lacking my absolute favorites of his, but a fantastic collection nonetheless that really highlights his electroacoustic/musique concrete side

I've always wanted twee glitch to be a thing and now it's a thing! Seriously though this was great. Lots of fun. Little chiptune noodlings, some house-esque interludes, and just an all around vibe of creative quirky glitched-out twee that feels like it's always inventing new ways of getting you to enjoy it. A little scattered maybe? Eh. Whatever I dug this.
This goes back to you nacho? I know you're already backlogged so I'll just hit you with an EP (if you haven't already heard it)
Alright listened! I must say it caught me quite off guard. For an album that started off so... "post-glitchy" for want of a better word, I didn't expect it to morph into something so post-rockish. Man though that opening track is fantastic. So is In Between which has some absolutely brilliant lyrical moments, "false stars come and go in between." Don't think it quite reached levels of consistent greatness for me but there are some definite gems on it. Thanks a lot man!
