This year is UNFAIRLY good. This is probably going up to overall chart, as is Tetsuo, and if Panic Is Perfect's new release is an LP and comes out this year, that one too. And I haven't even been able to track down several of the releases I'm most excited about this year/they aren't avaliable yet (Modest Mouse, Blur, Brand New, the rare TATE album, Matt and Kim, Hippo Campus, Death Cab For Cutie, San Fermin, Tame Impala, Dance Gavin Dance, and Touche Amore, to name a few), and I still haven't heard several of the super hyped releases yet either (Sauna, Ten Love Songs, Aureate Glory, At Least For Now, Expect Delays, Sour Soul, and Poverty among them). I'm so excited I've got a 13 album queue going, and somehow, it just never seems to shorten, every day I find something new. I've stopped rating the mediocre ones, or adding them to the site or my chart, but I've heard more than just what's on the chart now. This year has been insane.
To add on, this is Monarchy's most album-y album. The first was great, full of great danceable singles, and a surprisingly cohesive album, but it didn't feel like an album so much as a great playlist. This features transition tracks and interesting samples and they're back to danceable from the "we're so artsy" last EP. And still, they capture that 80s vibe of "dance dance dance party party wait what was that lyric, this song is dark? wait what" vibe so well. A great release for fans of Monarchy, or other similar bands (think Miami Horror, Penguin Prison, Cut Copy, or to a lesser extent OMD). _________________
Some pleasant indie-pop/rock that I added to the site. Kinda like a less versatile Feist in some regards. She has a lovely voice though and there's some interesting instrumentation here and there. Some really nice, laid back stuff to listen to. _________________
Also, after a third listen, I'm pretty sure the new Sufjan Stevens album will be in my top 5 of the year. It's gorgeous start to finish, and quite possibly his best album to date. _________________ Doubles & Conch
The new EP on Workshop is dope. The new Ufomammut album is dope. The new Ryosuke Miyata album is dope. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
Track list for To Pimp A Butterfly has been released. No features announces so far though... There might not be any. 'I' squeezes it way on though, along with a song called 'u'. _________________ Doubles & Conch
