I was wondering if this was the same Zen-as-fuck Alan Watts that I was thinking of, and the chanting at the beginning pretty quickly answered that. But whoa I didn't know he knew how to music so well. The layering of varied vocal articulations vacillated between peaceful and almost terrifying (some of that screaming on the first track jeez. Brilliant.) The spoken word elements were hardly a surprise. Honestly I'd be surprised if they weren't there to accompany all the tribal percussion and chanting. Really fantastic. thanks again Alex

If what I saw from the Best Label Tournament is true, I'll be very sad to see you go. Still, this shouldn't be in vein, you given so much to this site. I've added this on your behalf if you don't mind. And anyway, this deserves to be on here, because it's so fucking amazing! I love the freak-folkish textures that it gives me while also sounding incredibly gorgeous. It actually reminds me of Sung Tongs a bit - his vocals also give off that Avey feel to him too - but that's not a slight at all because I also love that record with a passion. I don't want to be ungrateful for all the recs I've been receiving in this thread recently, but, so far, this is the best rec I have received so far. My love could go further if I keep visiting this. Thank you secretdad! You will be missed.
Oh hey yeah sorry about that I was being dumb, this place is cool. Glad you guys dug em and thanks for adding that album dude, I've been lazy about getting to a bunch. That Alan Watts was one where I'd kinda heard something about him doing some music stuff and how it's one of the earliest psychedelic records, but then it got reissued this year and was on spotify so it was actually easy to listen to. But yeah totally falls into some hippie cliches but some pretty wild stuff. And yeah Hazey that Virot, I really do need to put that up on my stuff, ppl need to check it, it was slept on. Definitely get the Avey comparison, I heard about it from an animal collective forum, and I always thought Rusty Santos had produced it but that's not actually true. But it has those really nice sounding acoustic guitars, a really good listen.
Oh hey I had a quick listen to the one from this year, need to go more in depth with that. Missed this one though, this is some good contemporary beat stuff. Modern signifiers of this sort of thing with significance given to the space between beats and that sorta drum kit sample bank that makes me think of night slugs. Like one of the zeitgeisty things I think is going on is a lot of electronic music is heightening that sense of each percussion hit coming from a relatively small pool of sounds, a sort of punk rock stripping down of the excess of delineations in drum sounds that were at least somewhat popular last decade. And this has a distinct take on it, subtle detail work and a whole spacey bedroom listening vibe rather than an overt dancefloor focus that puts it right up my alley. Tho this still draws a lot from that grammar and could still probably work in a dance context if the dj was up for it. Thanks for pointin this one out for me, I need to dig in to this.

yeah it's really cool phenomenon that's been developing a lot lately inf certain forms of minimal techno and more frequently dubstep and a new brand of headphone-friendly instrumental grime (of which Logos is currently the apex imo). You pretty much summarized the aesthetic better than I could have. Here, here's something else in kind of the same sonic vein
This has some really umph to it. This feels a lot closer to the dancefloor side of things, but it's not tacky about it. And still lots of cool little touches. Some tracks sort of establish what their parameters are at the standard pace, but what I found most striking was Dem Traps where midway thru the melody stuff gets WAY amped up after the woozy pad thing takes over. But yeah, its all just really well put together stuff, the way Chrome Saviors builds up the layering is awesome and the way the beat changes just that subtle bit halfway thru Grey Saviors, I need to figure out what exactly happened there cause it was cool.
SYNCOPATION GALORE. Seriously though this was really cool. The kind of thing you'd dance to in space or on another planet or sth. Bits of acid flavoring here and there, moments of more traditional low-key house blended with these downright surreal quirks in rhythm and timbre that made the whole thing delicious. Another great rec Alex 😄
Fantastic. Very reminiscent of John Zorn at times, and maybe even Zappa to a a lesser extent. Running out of postitive things to say about the shit you rec me Gowi but once again this is ace.
