Revisionist by Sannhet

Don't know if this album has been mentioned here yet, but really really good post-rock/post-metal (it's somewhere in between). The big moments are gigantic and the instrumentation is really great, layers and layers of guitars, incredible drums, it's really a pretty awesome album.

So I'm really really interested to hear some opinions on this album (dbz and Gowie especially).

It's black metal with a healthy dose of "wtf just happened". It's really different, can't say I've ever heard a black metal album like it. Crazy stuff, all over the place, time signatures are more of a nice idea rather than something to be adhered to. It's nuts, give it a listen.

Some of the best avant-garde black metal in sometime if you ask me, I just finished listening to it and I can say the first track is fairly standout with itโ€™s sort of โ€œblack metal-meets-free improvisationโ€ approach. I hear fleeting moments of mathcore and noisecore patterns as well as ideas, itโ€™s probably what I would want to do if I could write black metal myself. Itโ€™s not as chaotic as it seems though, and it wears on youโ€”but I think itโ€™s really really good and worth a listen.

I've listened to it a couple times now, and this is a horrible cliche, but it really feels like the Kid A of Hip Hop.

There's going to be a lot of people turned off by this, but I think his homecoming storytelling is outstanding, and the whole second half (especially Hood Politics/How Much a Dollar Cost/Complexion) is sublime.

I had similar feelings. It's definitely something that requires a few listens, it's a dense but rewarding listen.

Yup. Totally blown away. Are we seeing the return to fresh political/socially conscious funk? Gonna take me a while to fully digest this one, but certainly an early album of the year contender.
