Since I criminally and inexplicably left the work of both these great directors off of my 100 films list, I figure the least I could do is give these a spin...
Loving this - more nuanced than their last, with a greater clarity given to each separate ingredient. Also gets pretty doomy at times, not massively heavy, but definitely gives off the feel that you're marching in a dark forest. They've certainly honed their sound, and (crucially) they're still searching for that pure trance state. 'Piure' doesn't really feel like anything else I've heard from them - it's ostensibly more laid-back, but it's streamlined and oddly intense. Easily one of the best of the year so far, and a good tonic for those moments in-between Kendrick listens. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
