Am I the only one that thinks Kintsugi is excellent?
I have to disagree. I just really don't like the vocals and it doesn't really feel like there's much sustenance to it, kinda feels empty. The only good thing I can say about it is that the instrumentation is at least more diverse, but it still just feels like more of the same. I'm inclined to agree with Pitchfork on this one.
So I don't think anyone here is quite as addicted to Justin Vernon as I, but I check out every release he puts out, produces, or is recorded at his studio.
This came out in the US just the other day, and was produced by him, as well as being made at April Base. Everything I've heard of April Base (except the Astronautiuls colab) has this certain warm quality, there's a specific tone that they all get. There's moments here that are even more For Emma than usual for the studio, and overall it's just a great folk album. It's three sisters that just harmonize perfectly instead of multitracked vocals (as is probably more common for April Base), but it just works perfectly. _________________

Ah, well. Their loss. I find the album a bit nostalgic, as a band from today is recreating the sounds of the old bands ranging from Seattle to England and somewhat succeeding with a versatile vocalist.
The albums I like don't get great reviews here (for '15). My taste in music has greatly improved, but it seems my 2015 tastes vary from everyone else. I guess I'll have to take some time to relisten to my '15 top 4.

Am I the only one that thinks Kintsugi is excellent? I kinda hated it at first, but came up on it a lot. I mean, fuck P4K's lazy-ass review. What does anyone else think?
I find it only a little better than Code & Keys (which was a huge misstep for DCFC), but it has a lot of problems as far as I'm thinking.

I've never been a huge Death Cab fan, but that Black Sun song is pretty cool. The album as a whole was too much for me personally, but I wouldn't say it was a bad album. I just don't vibe with the Death Cab thing. _________________ follow me on the bandcamp.
This one is all voice (from Anna Caragnano), layered and processed by Donato Dozzy. No other sound source. It is just a wonderfully chilled out, consistently pretty album. Some of it kinda blurs together for me and doesn't click with me but it's all highly listenable and the bits that do stand out to me are really something. I think in time this one could be a grower, I'd recommend looking into this one.

I just listened to this today, and I think it was generally pretty underwhelming. Granted, I didn't listen to the entirety of each song, but nothing jumped out at me too much. It just kind of blended into generic folk that seems really popular now. The production was good, but it ended up feeling too much like Bon Iver, not really like it's own thing. Every week I have to give feedback on all the albums being sent to the radio station I work at, and among all the countless other indie-folk albums we get it just didn't do much to stand out.

I think our problem here is that I have no issue with that whatsoever. And to me it is kind of it's own thing too cuz it's three female voices doing that style. To each their own, though, in the end. _________________

JMan, JMan, you're taste in music never "improves", nobody's does. It just evolves as you listen to more and more different styles & visons. It just isn't healthy to think what you liked in the past isn't as worthwhile cuz it may be less popular to your peers, and whatever is popular with them right now is something you have to like more. Always be true to yourself, but as you have shown, a willingness to try new things and expand your horizons is always healthy and encouraged. Just don't think you have to let go of old favorites (and similar new ones) to enjoy what else is out there.
