I guess I just like making lists but I was looking through my music collection and listed which composers have written the most songs in there. This is how it turned out:

2. Trad. - 388 tracks, 174 artists
3. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - 359 tracks, 10 artists
4. Bob Dylan - 328 tracks, 52 artists
5. Bruce Springsteen - 249 tracks, 10 artists
6. Mick Jagger/Keith Richards - 239 tracks, 23 artists
7. John Lennon/Paul McCartney - 214 tracks, 43 artists
8. Willie Nelson - 176 tracks, 40 artists
9. Neil Young - 172 tracks, 13 artists
10. Elton John/Bernie Taupin - 153 tracks, 8 artists
10. Steve Earle - 153 tracks, 7 artists

Just checked my itunes and have come up with 352 Smashing Pumpkins songs, minus 20 from the Greatest Hits and another 15 or so that are covers, so thats roughly 317 songs Mr Corgan has written (that I have been able to get anyway). I don't have all of the latest album yet (Teargarden by Kaleidyscope) so that number will go up...

JS Bach has BWV numbers through 1126.

Some pieces are as short as 1 minute, some longer than an hour.

Maybe a distinction must be made between songwriters and composers, noise artists and film scorers, guitarists and singers, etc.
