agree with what you are saying. The lyrics are written using a comma to break each line, mainly for aesthetics & because they'd been transcribed that way from people's suggestions and from other websites. I'd be happy to replace these all with slashes and change to a stanza format, but you're the first person to raise this in ten years and to change it isn't a small job given there are about a thousand of these quotes already in the database.
