If any of y'all want to take a pretty major detour in your 2015 listening, there's been some really outstanding music coming out of Africa.

From Kinshasa by Mbongwana Star

I honestly don't know how to even describe this album from the Congo. It's somewhere between psych, electronic, and afrobeat. Just finished my first trip through and I could easily see this in my top 10 for the year. Such a unique pleasure.

Ba Power by Bassekou Kouyatรฉ & Ngoni Ba

Out of Mali, Ba power has that trademark mesmerizing mande music sound featuring interweaving ngoni.

Zoy Zoy by Tal National

Possibly even more hypnotizing is Tal National's latest from Niger. A mix of Afrofunk polyrhythms and fast, complicated guitars.

The King Of Anxiety by Petite Noir

Born in Belgium and living in Cape Town, this one's kind of art pop/R&B mixed with a little bit of Afro Funk fun.

Makes A King by The Very Best

Very fun electronic dance with African influences out of London

more to come...

Juguya by Baba Commandant & The Mandingo Band

While we're talking about African albums from this year, can't forget this. Great album from Burkina Faso.

Def heard about that one, will put that in the queue right away, thanks. Loved the Steve Gunn collab too from earlier.

Also thinking Platform and Apocalypse, Girl would make a great (if ๐Ÿ˜œ overlong) sex-ing soundtrack.

Definitely gonna second that Baba Commandant release. Also, the Tal National and Mbongwana Star records are pretty cool too. Wasn't big on that Petite Noir album at all, but I'll check out the other two. Cheers for the heads up.

On an entirely different note...

I know promo copies have been sent to certain blogs, so it can't be long until we see a leak of this. The guest list is just fucking ridiculous (Meth, GZA, MF Doom, R.A. the Rugged Man, Large Professor). #hyped

EDIT: Also, this...

Dave DK - Val Maira (2015)

๐Ÿ˜

This is my fucking jam. Recommended to fans of Pantha du Prince, Four Tet, Donato Dozzy. Almost finished, and it's safe to say that this is the best beat-based electronic album I've heard this year.
