Ahh. Now I know how Skinny feels. Using "The Rat" rather than Bows + Arrows brings a pain in my heart. Obviously "The Rat" is the best song but I'd also take Bows + Arrows over just about any album in 2004.
That said, 2004 still easily gets my vote. 1974 is just a bit too hit and miss. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Yeah 🤣 I can't stand Barry White. I've never liked his music whatsoever. Just a personal thing obviously, I understand that plenty of other people enjoy his music. _________________ Doubles & Conch

But but but but... Barry didn't become a self-parody until the late 70s..

Abstained, one team has On The Beach, which I love more than any other album here (plus the Barry White single is easily the next best thing there). 2004 is more varied, I don't love anything there immensely, but there's enough overall to cancel out the other team.
And yes, Barry White is great.[/i] _________________
Not a huge fan of either team - there's only three albums I love here out of ten (On the Beach, Madvillainy, and Van Lear Rose), and only one single each (Barry White and The Walkmen) - but that 2004 team is less offensive to my tastes. I quite like Talkie Walkie and Thunder, Lightning, Strike (although I liked both a lot more at the time of their release), and I can tolerate Good News..., whereas an evening spent in the company Gordon Lightfoot and Queen just sounds like hell to me (and whilst I don't mind that Camel album, I'd be pretty perturbed if somebody insisted on playing that Deep Purple one). I also have a soft spot for 'Sweet Home Alabama', but I can think of at least a dozen Skynyrd songs that I prefer (because Skynyrd have lots of dope songs), but those other three singles are... well, the less said about them the better. A distinctly unenthusiastic vote for 2004. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
04, while not a soul-stirrer it has the excellent Madvilliany, the very good Van Lear Rose and Thunder, Lightning Strike, and I love parts of Good News if not the whole. Walkie Talkie I could care less about. Most singles are merely quite good, The Rat is heavenly though. 74 on the other hand is... (shivers). Well I do like parts of On the Beach and Sheer Heart Attack, I haven't heard the deep purple album all the way through (what I have though gives me no urgency to try the rest) and Mirage is a turn-off. Singles again range from cheesy to bad to actually quite decent (I do have many many nostalgic joy with sir Barry White, and Sweet Home Alabama is pretty good too even if personally way over-heard). But 04 def wins this vote easily, though none too excitedly.
Well, team, it looks like our last run. Everybody seems to have been offended by one or the other of you, but which one was the top offender I can't say.
To summarize
Madvillany > everybody on this team.
everybody on the other team < [whichever album or single offended you]
Sigh.
That's it, guys. Go home. Maybe we'll do better next time.
