Auto Tune - The tool? The illness? - Music

I'll try to be brief as I can with this. I know I normally warble on a bit much when writing new threads and people normally don't know what I'm on about anyway. I was looking up Auto tune earlier today. I had read about it in an NME article (I had heard of it prior) and felt the need to look up examples and lists of songs which use it. Listening to some of the examples, I have to confess that I would have never been able to see the... lets say "cracks" without knowing where to look. The thing is some of the songs which use it are good. This apparent bogeyman in music hasn't taken away my enjoyment for some songs. Observing and listening again I have found that auto tune carries a stigma today. There are people inside the great halls of music who consider people who use auto tune as murderers in the music world. It's like they have killed the guard to get inside while there is a line of people waiting in the cold to get in. They don't consider them artists, merely products of a sort. Obviously there are cases where it is used in careless ways but what of it as a tool for music? After all it is about 'good songs' above everything else in music.
