Actually, this new DJ Rashad EP is bangin'. It may even be on the level of Double Cup, which is definitely one of the best electronic albums of the decade.
This is Julia Holter, Kohei Matsunaga (aka NHK’Koyxen), Laurel Halo, Rashad Becker, Lucrecia Dalt, Grégoire Simon, and Charlotte Collin all collaborating together, for two longform sidelong pieces totaling 35:26 minutes of music (and it only cost me 2 bucks at the mp3 store). The thing that makes this one weird is that all the performers were separated across the globe, and weren't hearing anything that anyone else was doing, they all just knew at a set time to be recording and start playing. The talent of all the people involved comes thru in the restraint everyone shows, which allows for the creation of these moments that just sound like they had to be intentional and things feel like they have a relationship with each other. If you're into the whole longform abstract electronic type of business, give this one a whirl, it is fun.

As of me posting this, his new album has a 4.50 average, based on 90 (!) ratings. I guess I'm not the only one who likes Pitbull on RYM. 🙄
Actually, what's sorta saddening about this meme is that this is far from his best album. It has its moments, but is mostly pretty flat, without any of the amazing flash and sing-along choruses and refrains of Planet Pit. But then again, I guess me realizing that means that I'm doing the meme wrong by actually listening to the music. 😕

Where can I find this?
It should be on the streaming services, or bleep.com for two bucks. But I should warn you it doesn't really sound like a lot of their work, more like weird improv type stuff. But if that's yr jam (and it's mine) it's some great listening.
Anyone who likes the contemporary beat stuff like Arca or whatever should check this one out. It feels like it's a part of what's going on in that whole scene now, but it's got a really distinct take on things and is really special.
