Really solid, but lacks the effortless glide and the rugged, street-inspired bounce of 2013's Dam-Funk-assisted Higher. However, it's certainly more varied than that album, both musically and lyrically, and serves as perhaps a better display of Arrington's talents, even if it doesn't feel like the same kind of focused, cohesive statement. Definitely very strong - I can't quite believe this passed me by at the tail end of last year. He's certainly one of the more distinctive voices in funk, mixing Morris Day-esque cut-off crooning with hip-hop-inspired braggadocio, often resulting in a very melodic, laidback sort-of scat-singing, largely over clean funk tracks, sounding completely assured but all the while suggesting the very real possibility that the entire thing is completely ad-libbed. Not for everyone, but definitely worth a try if you fancy some feelgood, summery (if somewhat shallow) funk goodness in your life. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. They announced and released it about 20 minutes ago and it's free. I'm digging it so far, but I don't know whether the surprise and fact that it's free clouding my judgement. I'll have to listen to it far more to have a real opinion, but my first impression - it's weird as hell, but I like it.

Good to see this. Nice change from annoying leaks and boring pre-hype...just put it out and be done with it. Screw all the pre-release crap. Just release it. I hope this starts a new trend!

True he likes the Breeders, he thinks Green Day's pretty swell
But what about the Bartlebees and Neutral Milk Hotel?
It's okay for a sunny day but that Sting album won't do
So when I play you Allen Clapp, you'll know baby I love you!
