New surprise Ninja Sex Party dropped too. I like my music a little more civilized than Wilco *straightens tie*

Iron and Wine released a covers album featuring the guy from Avett Brothers Band of Horses (paging Rocky and Gowi there). It's alright, some interesting takes on songs.

Here's the weird one:

So BEP hasn't been interesting to me since "Gone Going" which I hate to admit I still really enjoy. Dirty Bit has some interesting riffs that I used in early mashups but the song as a whole was pretty banal, and for the most part they just haven't interested me. Their really early stuff is interesting, more traditional hip hop (Will.I.Am was apparently a ghost writer for Easy-E) but nothing hugely standout.

A few months ago they had a song come out called "Awesome". It was anything but. Seriously one of the most repetitive and annoying songs I've heard by any man (since Boom Boom Pow at least).

Today I saw a reddit post about Black Eyed Peas going back to their roots. I assumed they meant stuff like "Monkey Bussiness"'s singles, which my mom really liked, so I was gonna check it out and maybe show her. I gotta say, this is one of my favorite songs I've heard of theirs. It's mostly because they just rip off other famous songs, but that's sort of the point I guess. It's a little too long, but it's actually good, which was a shock.

Taboo has never seemed more out of place, but apl.de.ap actually shows that he's got some talent, and there's no fergie, so that's an automatic upgrade.

This was a "20th Anniversary" song, and it's unclear if there's an album coming, but I'd take a full on hip-hop, Fergieless Black Eyed Peas.

Look at that. Black Eyed Peas get a mention on BEA. Can't say I've found anything of theirs in the last 10-15 years worthwhile... That was a great retero moment - probably will be popular in concert, and will make the club crowd (or weddings) happy, but I can't say it gets me interested beyond.

Lucifer I by Lucifer

Paging all doom metal fans

This is one of the better doom releases I've heard this year, takes a lot of cues not just from Sabbath but also from Candlemass, Electric Wizard, and My Dying Bride. It's the new band from Johanna Sadonis of The Oath, if you know them.

Check it outtttt

We Are, We Were, And We Will Have Been by Bong

Really really good drone doom album from one of the better drone bands out there. It's not long (roughly 35 minutes) but it's worth it. It fills you with that feeling like when you're staring at a patterned carpet for a long time and the pattern begins to change and twist and fill your vision and you get completely lost in it.

Recommended especially for Skinny (if you haven't heard it already), Gowi, dbz, anyone who digs drone

Barons Court by Sarah Davachi

For fans of the dronier side of things, Sarah Davachi is someone you should know. I just saw a set from her at Debacle Fest a couple weeks back, she does the whole infinite-release huge cloud of overlapping tones, and she does it really well. She had two releases this year so far, this one has some acoustic sounds in the mix that I think make it stand out a little more. What really strikes me about her stuff is all of this off-kilter activity going on, like it's all very gorgeous and enveloping but the forms that take shape are really engaging to me.

Days by Earthly

So I know these dudes from the internet (I can't remember which one is responsible for my love of Harupmi Hosono - Sportsmen, but it's one of em), so I may be a bit biased. But it seems like it's been pretty well received in the critical circles. It's not topping my favorites list (so far), but it is some really fun chopped up weirdo electronic songcraft. This should give you a good idea if it's something you wanna look into https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GV3nk-lURY
