Black On Both Sides by Mos Def _________________ "And canโt you see youโre in on it?

No album in the past month or so has been quite as important as this for me. Franรงoise sings with such emotive innocence, singing of her experiences with loneliness, sorrow, pain, infatuation, and unrequited love. She sings beautifully bittersweet melodies alongside light, cheery guitars but with pure melancholy in the mix. The effect: an album that initially seems very pleasant and cutesy, but with repeated listens (at least for me) becomes more personal and cuts into the depths of your soul. But it's still pleasant and cutesy. And personal and melancholy. And it's perfect.
