RIP. Gone far too early - still had so much to offer, as his last album (Mic Tyson) proved. One of the few rappers of his era who never fell off. Fiercely independent (not to mention indecent), Sean P was often hilarious, occasionally touching, and always hard as fuck. A true god MC, with an immediately recognisable flow and an almost unmatched army of quotables. His discography, be it with Heltah Skeltah, solo, or otherwise, was incredibly consistent, but Monkey Barz in particular stands out as a highlight, one of the greatest hip-hop records ever made, and a perfect representation of a certain brand of unapologetic New York boom bap. It got a ridiculous amount of play from me throughout my time at university, and my CD copy was stupidly (drunkenly) left at a friend's house, where I hope it was as appreciated as it was in mine. Not sure that news of a rapper's death has ever hit me so hard, and it's tough to take knowing there'll never be a new Price album. Gone before his time. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
