i don't know if i really buy that Miley Cyrus has been considered teen pop for the majority of this decade. like, Bangerz was similarly out there. she's not like queering or subverting the teen pop paradigm unless you still insist she has some place in it because of things she recorded as a child. i grant you that she still likes to, despite the content of her interviews, really like conjure the image of her teen pop self as a foil, but it's really kind of played out and silly. no one really associates her with Hannah Montana anymore except for the strawmen created by thinkpiece writers' pens. she's making music that pushes the edges of contemporary pop, and those experiments tend to fail in my eyes but succeed in the eyes of others.

Very well said (and it's obvious I agree, as I have Bangerz on my overall).

Live At 9:30 by Animal Collective

with the exception of really good performances of Honeycomb and My Girls early on, everything here is pretty unexciting and lethargic, and the hugely bloated versions of Centipede Hz songs, which already make up the majority of the album, and the over-representation of Feels and Fall Be Kind to boot make this pretty much an all-around disappointment. it's also one of those live albums that keeps the banter and cheering in which seems completely unnecessary to me.

Not a big fan of live records in general and Centipede HZ is probably my least favorite of their releases so not sure I'll ever come around to listening to this. Surprised by your mention of over-representation of Feels. It's only 2 songs right? and I personally think Feels is my favorite (though it's a close call with Merriweather and Strawberry Jam)

over-representation applied to Feels and Fall Be Kind as a unit, as the former is my least favorite LP of theirs besides CHz and FBK, along with i think every other of their EP releases, unless i'm forgetting one, is mediocre.

From the album listening thread:

Company by Slime

Oooo now this is some good stuff. Electronic music jumping through genre hoops like an acrobat. A comparison I read: "the love child of Bonobo and Jai Paul adopted in youth by Gold Panda and given piano lessons by James Blake". Could definitely see dbz, skinny, gowi, norman, permafrost and a few others enjoying this.

FBK was MPP era. Also I think Chz is pretty cool but I'm in the minority on that even on the animal collective forum. And re: no good EP's, Water Curses yo

I'm aware it was; I'm lumping them together because I am neutral to negative on them both. I had thought of mentioning that explicitly in that post but thought differently and didn't. I just wrote out my ranking of the band's discography in the Games subforum and realized I've only heard two of their EPs recently enough to even recall an opinion, so I'll be revisiting them, including Water Curses, and get back to you.
