This is basically a lo-fi, jazzier version of James Blake, with occasional hints of Amnesiac-era Radiohead. Whilst that's hardly a glowing appraisal, this is still comfortably the best album I've listened to today on what has been a pretty underwhelming afternoon/evening of 2015 first listens. Could definitely see this being a bit of grower - would be surprised if it didn't land on my year chart after a few more listens, which is more than I can say for the other three albums I've tried out today.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, there's an interesting (if ever-so-slightly irritating) cover of Calvin Harris and Rihanna's 'We Found Love' here. I mean, that's one of this decade's pop smashes that I'm a big fan of, so I probably qualify as a "tough crowd" when it comes to assessing cover versions, but it's a cool enough take on it. _________________ 2021 in full effect. One last 2015 first listen before bed. Hopefully this one can rescue what has been a largely underwhelming listening session. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
