Wale is an avatar (and an annoyingly smug one at that).
Anyway, I'm currently listening to this...

Sean Nicholas Savage - Other Death (2015)
...and it's excellent. I generally find Savage to be pretty hit and miss, but this is stuffed with sultry slow jams, comprised of stock drum machine presets, My First Marcus Miller Basslinesโข, some fantastic electric keyboard work (which occasionally veers into pretty strange territory, at least in the context of this material), and a sincere falsetto which often tries to bite off more than it can chew, which only adds to the effect. The sound of a man trying to record a Never Too Much/Tango in the Night hybrid in his bedroom with only the crudest of equipment at his disposal. Walks a dangerous highwire act of sincerity, and occasionally threatens to plummet into smug self-awareness, but the strength of the melodies and the abandon with which he throws himself into the whole thing really save him, and in fact turn the record from an unfunny, one-note, hipster pastiche into a loving, passionate homage to a much (unfairly) derided style and era of music. Highly recommended - quite probably the best SNS record I've heard. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
