It's very nice, although I find his contributions on the prime GBV albums to be better typically. Maybe it's just I prefer Tobin in short bursts as compared to a whole album, but I don't think much on Carnival Boy could match up to stuff like Awful Bliss or Atom Eyes. That said it does probably have the best version of It's Like Soul Man, though all of them are just fantastic (and if you've never done yourself the privilege of checking out the 4-track version, do so).
Edit: If you haven't heard Robert Pollard's solo album from that year, you absolutely should by the way. Not In My Airforce is better than a good deal of GBV albums and definitely better than Tobin's solo album, and Waved Out is also great.
