is the way to go after RDJ. then Syro. i personally advocate drukQs after that, but it seems to be pretty universally panned, so maybe take the universally accepted "middle of the road" album I Care If You Do... after that. Selected Ambient Works Vol. II is kind of impenetrable for a lot of people and sounds way different from his other material, so maybe save that for last?
I'm really digging Aphex Twin's Richard D. James Album. Which Aphex Twin album should I go to next if I especially enjoyed "4" and "Fingerbib"?
I think Surfing On Sine Waves (under the name Polygon Window) would be the best next step, followed by the Analord series he did as AFX, then the stuff Satie said
nah you gotta hit saw 85-92 and syro before polygon window and analord. my stance is if after those two you're feelin 85-92 the most, go to polygon window and i care because you do and then analord. but I think if you're more into rdj album after those first three, you should check out come to daddy and hangable auto bulb. and if syro sounded best of all, then you should definitely make a beeline to the tuss before the other stuff. but you should definitely listen to everything, especially the melodies from mars thing if you liked fingerbib. and the ventolin ep collection is really good. also this compilation track definitely get around to this one eventually. but yeah there's not really a wrong way to do it follow your heart and stuff.
After RDJ (or before actually), one must def listen to this; lows are quite low but highs are impressive and you might like it since this is where chopped-up-drum-programming-on-synth-melody thing starts.

Thanks for all of your responses! Selected Ambient Works came up a few times, so I'll start there and then slowly descend into the rest of his discography. I vastly underestimated the volume of material he has released under different aliases.
What are some other essential electronic albums for some one almost entirely new to the genre? Besides Aphex Twin, I've listened to (and enjoyed) Boards of Canada and Flying Lotus.
