So I do, probably plenty more if I thought hard about it. Perhaps my rating curve isn't as distinctly high as it used to be.

To be clear, it wasn't a value judgment. I personally try to keep my 5.0s and 4.5s to a very strict minimum and use my 4.0s to get across kind of what Rocky seems to be saying with his 5.0s, but I don't see a problem with people having different schema. Just thought it was funny you implicitly saying that >100 5.0s was odd when you have >100.

I think it's good to note that the number is consistently growing since we're always listening to more and more

Indeed. I used to be a LOT more generous with my ratings, and in all honesty, many of my 5/5s on this site are probably a bit lower than that, I just haven't had the time to re-listen to all of them.

Big Black Coat by Junior Boys

I think one of the greatest strengths of this album is how it almost entirely avoids structure. Each song is its own, unique thing, each has its own style, which is what makes this album so interesting. It's constantly engaging you, always changing and evolving, it never settles and it never gets complacent. The lyrics are almost overly romantic, yet endearing in a way, and the sound very obviously bears heavy 80s influence, the vocals are smooth and fit the rest of the music really well. It's a solid album.

I think we all can say that for ourselves in general. But I always did find it odd how eager you were to attribute a perfect (or exceptionally high score) but I didn't know the proper way to open a dialogue about it without sounding like a bit of an ass.

Now I'm feeling all self-conscious about my rating system based entirely on my impulse whims of the moment by which I give out 4-5 ratings like there's no tomorrow

Don't be. Considering that these aren't carved into stone, it's not like we can't revise. We're not Pitchfork or something

No, they're just carved into my flesh. I have 9 deep gashes that I mended with hot wax descending down my right side along my ribs for each of my 9 5.0s. Some of us are just a lot more trve than others, it seems. ๐Ÿค
